One of the most majestic islands in the Saronic Gulf, Spetses, is famous for its glorious naval tradition, remarkable and unique culture. At a distance of 50 nautical miles from Piraeus, it can be reached in just 2 hours from the largest port in the country as well as by road via Kosta. Known as “Pitionisos” and “Pitiousa” in antiquity, it owes its current name to the sailors of the Middle Ages. During the Greek Revolution from 1821-1832, it played a leading role andit was one of the first islands to revolt against the Turks along with Hydra and Psara. At that time, two of the most significant personalities emerged from the island, Laskarina Bouboulina and Andreas Miaoulis.

Admire the sights

Spetses, besides its wonderful beaches, someone must see and admire the following attractions on the island.The historical square of Dapia at the harbor, place of meeting of captains and rulers in 1821. The house of Xatzigianni Mexi, first ruler and benefactor of Spetses. Here, at this house is the Museum of Spetses since 1939 that serves as archaeological and historical folklore collection.Behind Dapia, the Mansion of Boumboulina with its unique carved ceiling in the great hall; was renovated and opened as a museum in 1992, with live tour during which the visitor hears about the life and work of Boumpoulina.The Anargyrios – Korgialenios School nearby the hotel “Poseidonio”, which was founded in 1927. Its excellent facilities spanning 130 acres with a private olive grove and additional 9,000 acres of private forest.Near the lighthouse, there is the church of Panagia Armata, built after the victory of Spetses, Hydra and Psara against the Turks, on 8 September 1822.The cave of Bekiris, old haven of militants, in Agioi Anargyroi beach, behind the island, where the old Spetsiots hid the women in the Ottoman period.

Beaches

Large, clean sandy beaches with crystal clear waters.
Starting from the SE area of the island, we will meet the sandy beach of Agia Marina, 2 klm. from the Dapia port. Agia Marina is a well organised and popular beach with tavernas and beach bar in an evergreen environment.In the southwestern part of the island, 12 km from Dapia, you will come across Agia Paraskevi beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. Agioi Anargyri beach, located in the southwestern part of the island, is one of the most famous and most popular beaches on Spetses.On the north side of the island, Vrelos beach is known for Vrelos beach bar which attracts mainly the young crowd visiting the island. This place has undoubtedly scored high with customers and is characterized as the favorite beach bar on the island. In business for more than 20 years, the Kaiki Beach Club in the Anargyrios School area is certain to become your regular, favorite spot. In the famous district of Spetses, left of the port, there is a pebble and sand beach with clear blue waters. Kounoupitsa beach is one of the closest beaches to the center of Spetses. Anargyrios School beach on the northwest side of town extends in front of the well-known Anargyrios and Korgialenios schools and is one of the largest on the island. It can be reached on foot. Zogeria is located in the northwestern part of the island, 7 km from the center, and is one of the beaches well worth visiting during your stay on Spetses.
